UPDATE: On closer inspection of the nuthatch pictures in Birds of Oregon, I think the first photo is a male and the second a female. I base this on the black on the shoulders being more prominent in the males. Anyone got an opinion?
This white-breasted nuthatch is a good provider. He comes repeatedly to get a beak-full of sunflower seeds or peanuts (see below) that he then flies his haul back to his nest. It takes a lot of trips and it takes a lot of seed and peanuts as many birds are seen flying off with provisions. Of course, he eats well before he loads up for his flight home. Makes me wonder how far I could carry a few peanut bits with chopsticks. /KO
